Deepening technology and information sharing partnership between two leaders in the mobile library space dramatically increases user acquisition.
Year-end library mobile app usage data from 3M Cloud Library and Boopsie’s soon-to-be-released Boopsie Analytics(™) platform indicate that custom branded library apps from Boopsie deliver one-third of all new 3M Cloud Library users from their mutual library-customers. Boopsie’s Silicon Valley based Internet Marketing team initially focused its multi-platform app marketing strategy on helping libraries acquire new patrons and increase library circulation, but has since extended their distribution strategy to facilitate strategic partner growth.
For example, one of the first libraries to launch the integration in September of 2013 generated 31% of all new 3M Cloud Library users of the service. The other two-thirds of new 3M Cloud Library users were generated from ALL other channels combined, including: in-library promotions, community and school events, local and national news, library websites, and all other technology, non-technology and marketing partnerships.
Patrons can not only download free eBooks and eAudioBooks through 3M Cloud Library and other eContent providers, but also search their respective library’s catalog because Boopsie’s mobile app integrates with all library Integrated Library Systems (“ILS”) via its proprietary AccessILS(™).
Frisco Library System added 616 new 3M Cloud Library users from September to December 2013, 39% (191 new users) of which were delivered via Boopsie. These new mobile users are taking advantage of the seamless technical integration and generating increased circulation for the library.
“In Q4, we saw a dramatic increase in libraries adding 3M Cloud Library to their library’s mobile app” says Tony Medrano, CEO of Boopsie. “3M’s modern API enables us to jointly create a great mobile user experience, reduce user the abandonment common in weaker technical integrations, and enable our mutual library-customers to achieve a higher ROI on their investment in digital content.”
API, which stands for Application Programming Interface, is software interface that operates in the background to seamlessly transfer information between two sources. Once a library patron logs into their Library’s app and selects an eBook, the API passes through information from the Boopsie app and uses it to automatically log the patron into the 3M Cloud Library System, which can increase user adoption and circulation by up to 50%.
“It is great to see Boopsie deliver so many new 3M Cloud Library users in just the first few months of our partnership,” stated Tom Mercer, Marketing Manager, 3M Cloud Library. “Boopsie’s platform technology creates leverage for both the content provider and the library by delivering easy-to-use library services to patrons, which in-turn dramatically increases library circulation.”
