Increase in Active Boopsie Apps, Q4 2013 vs 2012
Sunnyvale, CA – February 26, 2014 – Boopsie Inc., the leading mobile app platform for libraries, released stats for Q4 2013 showing strong growth across the board for libraries utilizing Boopsie’s native mobile app Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS). The number of libraries using library-branded apps from Boopsie has grown 50% in Q4 2013 vs Q4 2012, indicating steady and continued growth in the sector. The number of app users has also grown by 38% over Q4 in the previous year. The growth is driven in part by Boopsie’s active assistance to libraries to help them acquire new patrons, and the fact that 80% of American’s time on mobile devices is spent in mobile apps vs. responsive mobile websites.

“In the fourth quarter, our Silicon Valley based Internet marketing team launched new, free marketing assistance to our library-customers to help them acquire new patrons for their libraries and remain relevant to their communities,” says Tony Medrano, CEO of Boopsie. “We are not just a mobile app platform for libraries, but a partner that helps libraries acquire new users and increase circulation in innovative ways.”
Android vs iOS Market Share in Q4, 2013
In addition to providing a comprehensive on-boarding program, Boopsie provides weekly live webinars on various educational topics such as new services from our Star Partners, as well as user acquisition tips and ideas for promoting mobile app usage within local communities.

Boopsie Analytics(™) tracks usage metrics from all of the native apps used by Boopsie’s library customers, and provides most data free of charge to its customers and partners in order to help them increase their circulation and acquire new library users. In October of 2013, Boopsie Analytics revealed that Android apps usage increased at a faster pace than Apple app usage. This trend continued through the remainder of the Q4 2013. While both mobile device platforms received more unique users compared to the previous year, Android usage increased by 51% over the previous year. In 2012 Q4, Android only accounted for 29.11% of the total market share and jumped to 31.71% in 2013.

In October 2013, Boopsie released stats predicting the demise of BlackBerry due in part to the release of the Windows Phone 8 platform. In Q4 2013, BlackBerry lost nearly 68% of the total market share vs. Q4 2012, dropping from 1.55% of the library app user market share in October 2012 to only 0.17% in December 2013.

BlackBerry vs. Windows 8 Market Share in Q4, 2013

Boopsie began releasing Windows 8 apps for both tablets and smartphones in July of 2013, which quickly became popular amongst library patrons due to rapid adoption of the Windows mobile platform by both younger users and corporate users. In Q4 Windows 8 users accounted for 1.41% of the market share accessing the library apps, and is growing.
