What is CONTENTdM?
CONTENTdm is a digital management service that helps you make your digital collection (images, audio, manuscripts, maps, etc) more searchable online. The Utah State Archives and North Dakota State University’s Institute for Regional Studies & University Archives are just two archives that use CONTENTdm.
How Does the CONTENTdm Integration Work?
The CONTENTdm Integration is a deep app-to-app link between your Library App and your digital collection. That means that when you open CONTENTdm, you won’t be transferred to another app. There’s no extra content to download, you just seamlessly connect with the content!
What are the Benefits of Having a CONTENTdm Integration?
Adding a CONTENTdm Integration to your Library App will help to expand the visibility and discoverability of your collection. You will also extend your reach to mobile users who may not be frequent visitors to your library but are a part of your community.
Since Winnipeg Public Library added the CONTENTdm Integration to their app in late 2013, they’ve received 994 unique visitors accessing their digital collection via mobile devices. Since April 2012, libraries with a Boopsie library app and CONTENTdm integration has been accessed by 2,763 mobile users.

The Winnipeg Public Library in Manitoba provides their patrons access to PastForward: Winnipeg’s Digital History.
You select PastForward on the menu to launch Winnipeg Public Library’s CONTENTdm Collections. You can choose from Henderson Directories, Public Historic Postcards, the Rob McInnes Postcard Collection, Voices of the North End or Winnipeg Public Libraries.
Select a collection to access the content inside.
Click on an image, for example “11: The Maryland Bridge over the Assiniboine River, Winnipeg, Manitoba”, and you’ll see a larger thumbnail, the title, subject, description, the image’s repository, the type of image, as well as its format, when applicable.
If you click on the thumbnail, you can either see the full-sized image immediately, or you will be given the option to select which page in a compound document that you wish to download.
Once you’re in full-size mode, you can manipulate the size of the photo as you like. If you want to zoom in on an object, use your phone’s zooming techniques (normally pinch-and-zoom).
