OverDrive and Boopsie Integrate Access to eBooks on Mobile Devices with Embedded Mobile Reader in Library-Branded Apps

Monday, Jun 23

Boopsie’s library-branded apps will soon feature OverDrive Read(R) technology, an embedded reader that allows for a seamless, in-app reading experience.

Sunnyvale, CA and Cleveland, OH – June 23, 2014 – Boopsie, Inc.—the leading mobile platform-as-a-service provider— launches OverDrive Read(R) technology in its library-branded apps for Apple and Android mobile devices, delivering the most seamless user experience in the eBook industry.

74% of libraries using Boopsie’s white-labeled library apps already use the new OverDrive API integration to provide direct access to eBooks and eAudioBooks to their users. However, OverDrive and Boopsie’s technical teams have innovated beyond the new API and have worked together to integrate OverDrive’s revolutionary embedded mobile eBook reader, OverDrive Read, into Boopsie’s library-branded mobile apps. Readers now can have the consistent experience with the same reader that they already enjoy in the library and don’t have to download any additional app readers or fulfill Adobe ID login requirements.

“Enabling our OverDrive Read service in Boopsie’s mobile apps is a big win for libraries and their patrons,” says OverDrive’s Chief Strategy Officer, Lee Milstein. “OverDrive Read is the easiest eBook reader experience, and our joint technical efforts with Boopsie have created the best mobile eBook user experience in the library industry.”

The new embedded mobile eBook reader, available on Android and Apple devices, uses the fast growing OverDrive Read technology. The embedded reader provides an experience that is on par with the latest commercial eBook apps. Readers can adjust the settings, including changing the font type and size, or changing the display so it’s easier on their eyes in a dimmer setting. The embedded reader provides a bookmark and a full-text search feature, to help readers keep track of how much they’ve read.

“Use of OverDrive’s new embedded reader dramatically reduces the steps required to read an eBook on a mobile device,” says Boopsie CEO, Tony Medrano. “Patrons will no longer need an Adobe ID or be required to download another app in order to read eBooks from OverDrive in Boopsie’s library-branded mobile apps. Users can now simply select a title and click a button to read the eBook in OverDrive Read. This launch is a major technical milestone for the company.”

Libraries who are interested in learning more about the new integration are encouraged to read Boopsie’s article about the new OverDrive/Boopsie integration and mobile embedded reader or attend the upcoming OverDrive/Boopsie webinar on June 25th.

Both Boopsie and OverDrive will be attending the ALA Annual Conference and Exhibition, booths 2032 and 1317, respectively. For a demo of the embedded mobile reader and other new features, attendees can stop by Boopsie’s booth.
